Listening to - Tempo I (subito) - Mahler's Symphony No.5
In my last post I mentioned some stuff going on that I was unable to reveal full details on. I can now safely expand on what was going on (and as you may infer from the title of the post it is regarding my medical).
I have really poor vision. Many folks say that, "Oh I can't see at all!" No really - I can't see much in definition without my contacts or glasses. Fortunately though with my current glasses or contacts I get my vision to around 20/25.
For those of you who fly as commercial pilots you know that simply isn't good enough. The FAA states that for each eye you must see 20/20 with or without correction. My left eye has always made the cut at 20/20. My right eye is very blurry at 20/20. I've always managed to get a 1st class medical though, since I only use it for private pilot privileges (at the moment) and that I can "see" 20/20 out of the right eye if I struggle.
For this next round of medical examinations though I did not want to risk just getting by on the vision standards. This round of medical evaluation determined employment. Sorry - not taking the risk.
I went to my usual Ophthalmologist and he was unable to get me to pure 20/20 in my right eye. The only possible solution would be to see another doctor who specializes in hard to fit contact lenses. A rigid lens was this doctors potential solution. The doctor was unfortunately of little to no help with recommending a specialist to see.
To rectify the situation I did what everyone would do - check the internet! I managed to find what sounded to be a good practice with locations both in Manhattan and another closer to my home.
Sure enough Wednesday morning I went and saw the specialist and to end an extremely drawn out story I am now seeing 20/15 out of my right eye and 20/20 out of my left. Don't ask me how on earth that happened but it's legit.
These lenses are extremely awesome and powerful. I'm seeing clearer than I've ever seen in my life.
Now I can go to Chicago in a few weeks and not stress at all over any portion of the pre-employment. Ok - so maybe I'll be a bit nervous for the discussion portion....
Life is very good my friends. Very, very good.
