Trip Update

Listening to - As Tall As Lions - Into The Flood

My trip to Nebraska was a success and who knows, I may even move out there.

I got to visit the Strategic Air Command Museum while I was out there. Check out all the great aircraft and my attempt at photography here.

I also took some pictures and video while I was en route to OMA as well as some photos of our attempt to get onto Offutt AFB. I haven't uploaded the video yet (I want to edit it a bit, any suggestions on video editing software?). You can see those here.

Things were a bit crazy out there since we built out the stairs and framed out my sisters basement so I didn't get a chance to visit R90 (Omaha TRACON). I did find the number for the tower at OMA though and they had a very funny voice mail message. It went something like this...

"Hi! You've reached the Federal Aviation Administrations Eppley Air Traffic Control Tower in Omaha! We're just a little busy right now, so go ahead and leave us a message and we'll try to call ya back!"

I was going to leave a message but I always feel like a burden when I ask for tours and such. I know I shouldn't, but that's the New Yorker in me. My sister laughed at me when I told her I was so confused as to why people kept saying "Hi" to me in stores lol.

When I was getting on the flight from OMA to MSP the Captain was standing by the desk grabbing the updated weather for MSP. I sucked it up and went ahead and asked if I could grab jump seat (I figured it didn't hurt to ask!). His company reg's are that he can't allow anyone without a 121 cert up front during flight, but he offered for me to come up after the flight if I had time. Unfortunately, once we got to MSP I had about 15mins to run 15 long gates down to catch my JFK flight. The capt. was nice enough to ask how many hours I had and he said if I got bored with ATC that his company (Mesaba) is hiring with just 250hrs like crazy. I forgot to ask how much multi they were looking at but I think I'll do some research to find out.

Cardinal RG update: taking longer than expected. Finding multiple issues with the A/C that need fixing. Delayed now until possibly the end of April.

C-150 update: Needs a bath... Working on that once the town turns on the public water at ISP.

So that's it for now. I like it when I can turn family trips into aviation trips as well heh...

It's not just Mesaba's rule, unfortunately. If someone isn't part of CASS (Cockpit Access Security System), which you can only be part of if you fly for an approved airline or charter company, then they can't be in the pointy end during flight. A pilot certificate and a smile used to be enough to ride up front...not any more. Worth a shot, though, I guess :).
